The Each Uisge (pronounced ech oosh-skya) is a creature from Scottish and Irish folklore. It's basically a horse that lives in the water, specifically lakes.
The way they get their prey is they will lure a human onto their backs, and then excrete an adhesive (sticky sweat), gluing the human onto them. They then dive into the water before tearing them to shreds. Sometimes they will transform into a man or woman instead. Strangely, they leave their liver behind. One story tells of seven girls who climbed onto a pony to ride it. A young boy who accompanied them noticed the pony growing longer to accommodate all the girls, and he ran in terror as he watched the pony dive into a lake. The next morning, seven livers had washed ashore.
Another tale tells of a blacksmith who discovered his daughter had been eaten by an Uisge while tending to cattle (it apparently also has a taste for livestock), and he avenged her by having his son help him lure the creature out with a roasted sheep. When it came out, he thrust red hot hooks into its flesh, reducing it to a gelatinous mass, which was called “starshine”.
The Each Uisge is similar to the Kelpie, except for the fact that Kelpies inhabit running water, whereas Uisges inhabit stagnant water. Also, Kelpies aren't as gruesome with their murders, simply drowning their victims.
